New Use for an Old Table
The late-1800s Belgian butcher's table, today a kitchen island, still bears traces of newsprint from the table hardworking industrial days. The owner of the Georgia house left the Carrara marble counters unhoned to reveal wear. The walls have been painted Nation Stove White from Ralph Lauren.

Zippy bursts of solid colors, like the row of candy-hued stools at the kitchen island, are vibrant without overwhelming the kitchen of the Minnesota lake cabin. "Using bigger chunks of colour versus small, intricate patterns makes a bolder state-ment that's also easier on the eye," says interior designer Michelle Fries, who helped plan the space.
